Master Jun Dacayana

(Written By Master Jun Dacayana)

TRAINING HISTORY

I started training in Eskrima with my late Grand Father Dalmacio "Enciong" Alicaway Father of my mother at the age of (8) eight In TOLEDO CITY where my mother live. during that period I never thought of,.. that one day I will become an instructor specifically in

 ARNIS/ESKRIMA.

Those younger days are just a history. I never considered myself an expert at that young age since it was just part of being a kid that shows enough interest in any field of sports.

It was my grand father who really molded me in the world of ESKRIMA/ARNIS before my father. In 1982 when my grandfather died I continued my training of what was transmitted unto me by my late Grandfather.

During the period of 1980 to 1982 I was personally guided by my first mentor untill such time when I have decided to continue my studies in Cebu City where my father live, in 1988 where I also having found my job in the CEBU CITY HALL GOVERNMENT up to the present.

OTHER MARTIAL ARTS BACKGROUND

I also studied practical wing chun where we focus on the actual application of the combined techniques of both COMBAT JUDO AND WING CHUN KUNG FU WHICH makes a perfect defense of the MSD ESKRIMA, DACAYANA SYSTEM.

I was also studied KARATE (OKINAWAN SYSTEM) Traditional Tai-Chi Yang Style and Pushing Hands, and Boxing as well as KICK BOXING.

 THE CONCEPT

I believed that its very hard to master different style at once so I have to chose where to focus. Therefore I have decided to meritoriously study the art of STICK FIGHTING ARNIS/ESKRIMA from 1990 up to the present.

When I meet my very first foreign student from FRANCE Sifu Yves Dantec an instructor of the renowned WILLIAM CHUNG'S WING CHUN KUNG FU I was able to give my best.

So far the hardest part of my system is the footwork. this is where my students has encountered problem since you need to be very fluid so you can move easily and freely while hitting the target in different angles/directions.

In our training we are using 32-34 Inches long rattan stick. I love to teach personally so I can give concrete answer if questions arises.. I always encourage my students to ask questions before and after training.

Our system is purely SELF DEFENSE ORIENTED and not a SPORTS ORIENTED...

MORE ABOUT JUN

(Written By Marcie)

Jun's reputation has continued to grow and he was recognised as an Eskrima Master at a relatively young age. Here is an excerpt from a letter written to Jun from Grandmaster Ondo Carburnay of Lapunti Arnis:

The letter says "....now you have become a Master in spite of your youth, I salute you. Jun keep up the good work and share all that you have learned only with your chosen and most deserving students. Strive to live your everyday as a happy, upright and desirable person that your father expects you to be. I wish you were my own son! I would have been very proud of you as I watched you grow."

Jun is indeed worthy of the praise in the letter, and he has worked hard to teach his UK students and impart some of his vast knowledge of the system to us. The evolved style has become the Dacayana Eskrima System which is now becoming established in Europe as well as, of course, in the UK.
